Do you have a small bathroom? Check out some of the ways we can help you maximize the space.
Install the largest mirror the wall can handle, ideally a simple, frameless one. It will bounce light around and visually double the size of the room. Paint the walls, trim, and ceiling the same light, bright color. This blurs the edges of the room, making it feel more expansive and airy. And remove that clunky tub and install a walk-in shower with a low profile curb.
A traditional door that swings into the bathroom can eat up 8-10 square feet of usable space. Switching to a pocket door that slides into the wall or a stylish barn door that slides along the outside instantly reclaims that floor area. A wall-mounted or "floating" vanity is a game-changer for making a room feel larger.
The space between your wall studs is a goldmine. Install a recessed medicine cabinet instead of a bulky one. Build recessed niches into the shower walls to hold shampoo and soap. You can even build a tall, recessed cabinet for towels and supplies, so it sits flush with the wall. Add a few floating shelves high on a wall for attractive storage
Check out four small bathroom success stories with details of how we customized the remodel to fit the space and client's tastes.
We helped the client choose a Portuguese tile that draws the eyes upward. We removed the tub and replaced it with a open-concept shower, eliminating a major visual barrier. This single change makes the entire room feel larger and more integrated, as the eye can travel to the back wall without interruption.
We wanted to preserve some of the original details that gave this bathroom so much character such as vintage green mosaic tile but make the space feel more modern and light. To make the compact room feel larger, we removed the bulky tub and installed a walk-in shower with a glass enclosure. The wall to wall mirror that extends to the ceiling helps the room feel spacious and inviting.
Now that you've seen the before, click through to the after to see how we enlarged this master bedroom shower. To maximize the space, we installed a floating vanity. Because you can see the flooring extend all the way to the wall underneath it, the room now feels significantly wider and easier to clean.
This was an Express Bathroom, where we only do the "wet space" and which costs on average around $10K - $12K for labor and materials (costs vary depending on space and materials). The bathroom was small and dark, despite the skylight, because of the tub and opaque shower enclosure. We removed the tub and used textured large format tiles and brass fixtures to catch the sunlight to enhance the airy lightness of the space.
